22 weeks

cravings & such:  still loving meat and dairy over here.  the carb-love phase has gone away and been replaced by an obsession with cheese.  hubby has no complaints.

the bump:  growing!  it is kind of fun playing a wardrobe version of hide-and-seek with the bump.  i can strategically camouflage the belly with certain articles of clothing and really make it pop with others.  preggo lady entertainment at its finest.

cool & cute things:  feeling way more movement these days.  AND, ben is beginning to join in the fun!  plus, baby girl is starting to look more like a miniature newborn.  her lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct and tiny tooth buds are even developing beneath the gums.  baby girl’s eyes have formed but the irises still lack pigment.  she is 11 inches long and weighs almost 1 pound!  speaking of weight gain…i have heard rumors that from 20 weeks on, i should expect to gain about a pound a week?!  seriously?  yikes.

new things:  the baby is covered in fine hair [lanugo] and has developed skin wrinkles that will be filled in by fat in the coming months.  baby chub, people!  so cute.  and, the pancreas is developing steadily.

meaningful moments:  having my first “belly touches” by people.  fortunately, they are people i love.  i must admit that i am dreading the “belly caresses from strangers” portion of the pregnancy… i’ve heard that personal space and boundary violations abound as the belly grows.  hmmm…

the countdown:  126 days to go!

otherwise engaged

it’s official.

my sister is engaged!

engaged, as in, getting married.

wow.

so, we decided that a celebratory evening was in order.  complete with yummy beverages, cupcakes, various baked goods, and colorful confections [yup.  the candy color-coordinated with her wedding colors].  it was a festive and memorable evening.

here’s to the happy couple!

snaps & snippets & blurbs

my man and i spent last weekend in california for a wedding!  first off, the 72 degree weather made it pretty tough to return to the desert… and secondly, i really like weddings.  they are fun to plan, fun to participate in, and fun to attend.  and they always make us harken back to our special day, six years ago.  what a great reminder of the great blessing and meaning of marriage.  weddings are always such an  encouragement to us.  hubby and i had a fun weekend together and cherished the opportunity to let God refresh our committment and joy.

roadtrip fun + enjoying some of our favorites…black rebel motorcycle club, bob dylan, them crooked vultures, gungor, and dave matthews + pasadena sunshine and 72 degrees + enjoying some coffee while sitting outdoors under an umbrella + the cute little pups that were hanging out nearby + off to try on a tux! + looking very bond, james bond + the rehearsal at the church + old architecture in old town pasadena + the big day! + my man in his tux with pink accents.  he worked it + wearing my fancy manolo blahnik shoes + waiting for the ceremony to start + enjoying the dance party happening inside the belly [she was ready to get to the reception...] + the lovely flower arrangements + arriving at the reception site, castle green historic manor + the surroundings and decor…quite disneyland’s haunted mansion, if you ask me.  i think this venue must have been the inspiration.  it was very old school cool. + the beautiful tablescapes

dear peanut

you and me.  all dressed up.

it is fun getting to know you better every day.  i am trying to pay more attention to your schedule, mood swings, and preferred activities.  so far, you like to stretch in the morning.  you like when i eat.  you have a little burst of energy in the afternoon.  you like when i play the piano [pretty sure you are the only one, little girl.  i just started tickling the ivories about a week ago].  and you like to have a little dance party before bedtime.

last weekend, we took a road trip to california to attend a wedding.  we stopped a few extra times on the way for a bathroom break since you seem to think my bladder is either a trampoline, mattress, or squeeze toy.  your papa was very accommodating.  it was a pretty fun weekend because you started moving in more noticeable ways.  your papa even felt your little movement once!  we are looking forward to much more of that…

i will say that you were quite active while we sat in church waiting for the ceremony to begin.  i snapped that little picture while you were making a big fuss inside my belly.  i can only guess that you, a) were super-duper excited about the wedding, b) were very impatient as the ceremony was delayed by about 45 minutes, or c) were giddy about the fact that we were all dressed up and wearing fancy shoes.  really, any of the above means that’s my girl!

things are moving along quite well.  i am trying to stay hydrated and cool [thanks for all these 110 + degree days, AZ].  and your papa and i continue to learn more about you as we read and continue to prepare for your arrival with lots of prayer.  oh!  and your grandma ridley has AMAZINGLY completed the front of your quilt!  i hope you get her dedication and determination… it is so lovely and we are pretty excited to display it in your room.

keep up the good growth, little girl.  and try to throw in a few more kicks for your papa…

all our love to you, little peanut.

21 weeks

a little family photo

cravings & such:  same ol’ stuff.  but i have been having a major love of dairy.  cheese and yogurt and cottage cheese.  can’t get enough of that.  and as long as i stick to the healthier versions of dairy instead of indulging in pint after pint of ben and jerry’s, i think we should be okay.

the bump:  getting bigger but still in that kind of awkward, semi-bump phase.  not exactly a cute, big, obvious preggo belly…but we should be there before you know it.  my normal wardrobe still fits…it is just requiring some re-styling to help me accentuate the fact that i am actually 21 weeks pregnant instead of just looking like a indulged in a large meal.

cool & cute things:  fluttering movements will be intensifying into full-fledged kicks and nudges.  and, she is becoming more rhythmic and patterned in her movements.  she is 10.5 inches s long and weighs in at three-quarters of a pound [wahoo!  we are using pound language for baby girl.  big day]

new things:  baby girl’s eyebrows are present now.  and if she is anything like me, they are rather intense.

meaningful moments:  planning her room.  buying our first items.  reading baby books together.  feeling her move more.  calling her by name.  being on the other side of the half-way mark!

the countdown:  133 days to go!

fashionably agrarian

if an item of clothing shows up in vogue, it is fashionable.  they don’t call it “en vogue” for nothing.

if a seemingly gross agrarian pursuit shows up on the williams-sonoma website, with its own section?  it must be yuppie-hipster fabulous.

remember when i posted here that i want chickens?  well, apparently that was a pretty on-trend post, my friends.  recently, while my sweet hubby was perusing the pages of the williams-sonoma site, he stumbled upon this page.  yup, an entire section devoted to chickens.  not utensils and cookbooks to use to braise them…but backyard coops and guides for how to raise them.

that’s right!  backyard chickens are cool.  thank you for the validation of our cool-ness, williams-sonoma.  hubby and i feel uber-fashionable.

a celebration of fathers

we had a little shindig for the fathers in our life on sunday.  it was fun and father-y.  basically…watching golf, grilling hot dogs and sausages, eating some refreshing watermelon, and enjoying piles of homemade slaw and potato salad.  to cap it off, we had some creamy and refreshing, frozen raspberry pie.  i was in the mood to use some of those amazing raspberries that have been beckoning me from the produce shelves at the farmers’ market.  so, i whipped up some cool, pink goodness and paired it with a graham shortbread crust. an easy-peasy and lovely summertime dessert.

hubby and i heading out to the fathers day gathering + my dad.  sitting up close to the tv like a little boy.  trying to watch golf without cranking up the volume and adding to the noise level in the house.  quite considerate AND quite entertaining.  i loved that move.  + hustle and bustle in the kitchen as the meal is prepared + my mom chatting with grandpa whitehouse in his kicky new fedora.  very debonaire + assorted toppings for our hot dog bar + the pretty pink dessert [not exactly fitting for a guys’ day…but tasty, nonetheless.

dear peanut

a little snapshot of you and me

hello there, little girl.  this has been a fun week.  your papa and i celebrated our sixth anniversary together.  AND, your papa’s first fathers day.  it doesn’t feel quite as real as actually having you here on the outside…but it counts, nonetheless.  we are so excited to meet you.

i made the first official purchase for your room.  and, because i am kinda nerdy…i made a design board for your room as well.  it is so much fun to collect little meaningful bits to display in your room.  pieces of everyone that will play a role in your life.  your grandma [ridley] and i even went shopping for fabric for your quilt.  we hope that this will be a cherished heirloom piece that will be a part of your life and the lives of others.

your papa and i also purchased some reading materials so we can begin to learn more about you.  it has been really fun.  we have each taken on a book and are reading interesting parts to each other.  we know that it will be more about God’s grace and our obedience to Him than any words we read in these books, but we are enjoying learning more about this new chapter of life.

you are definitely growing and moving around.  i am feeling your little swooshes more and more.  you like to have little somersault parties at nighttime.  that is an especially fun time for me.  you are in our prayers and thoughts.  your whole family loves you, sweet one.

all our love to you, little peanut.

love, your mama + your papa

the whitehouses have been having some great times.  lots of memory-making, planning, relaxing, learning, growing, and enjoying.

i feel pretty blessed.  it is an amazing time in life.  all i can say is, soli Deo gloria, folks.  we are feeling pretty overwhelmed by His goodness and grace right now.

enjoying many date nights

resting and reading…preparing for our little girl

listening to records: lots of jazz.  lots of sinatra.  while my man sips a martini.

is he old-school cool or what?

planning the nursery

my mom and i took a trip to the quilting store to pick out the perfect collection of fabrics for baby girl’s quilt.  she is going to have a pretty amazing room with lots of thought and care and love put in.
