a scarf and a beard walk into a bar…

i love date nights with this guy*.  we are blessed to have very willing and eager babysitters in our lives {thank you family} which affords us the opportunity to plop miss elinor at their pad and take off for a dinner together.  so friday night, we did just that.  my hubby and i sat on the patio at one of our favorite mexican food spots, blue adobe and enjoyed scrumptious dips and salsas and spices and peppers and meats.  yum.  it was leisurely and perfect.  a relaxing and ideal way to kick off the weekend.

*how dashing does he look with that scruff?  and did you notice how beards were the “it” accessory for hollywood’s men at the oscars last night?  my guy is so cool.  way to be on trend, hubby.

welcome to monday, folks!  this was such a lovely little weekend.  i hope you can say the same.  while the east coasters sloshed through the nemo snow, we attended an outdoor art show with the addition of our winter scarves to fight the fifty degree chill.  brrrr.

easy, easy grumpy cold people.  this is our bragging season.  you may hate me now but your time will come.  i will see you in mid-july with your “nana nana boo boo” remarks when we are being baked in the oven that is arizona.  dry heat, schmy heat.  what i am getting at is that this weekend was great.  we bundled up and wandered outdoors to take advantage of these rare cool, cloudy days.  a nice family lunch date.  some grocery shopping.  and then retreating to our home for some coffee sipping and book reading.  good stuff.

here are a few of my favorite snaps from our weekend together.  and make sure to camp out on the last pic of my handsome man and our sweet daughter.  would you look at him?  holding her hands while she naps.  and isn’t baby-wearing the cutest?  love them.

us + the amazing purple wall at culinary dropout + pretzel fondue + my tuna salad…with roasted cashews and wasabi peas + the best sandwich ever.  the turkey pastrami + a little lunch stop for elinor at nordstrom + a papa and his girl

now blow the candle out my dear and make your wish come true. a very merry unbirthday to you!

today is the official anniversary of my hubby’s birth.  but we kicked things off early with some celebrations this past weekend.  i am talking a family outing for brunch, a trip to the movies, and a dinner date at our very favorite spot.  and then, bonus!  since it was a long weekend {hurray for the market being closed} we got to spend an extra day together.  and we scheduled a leisurely day at home together.  after being out and about this weekend, we played homebodies and cuddled on the couch with movies and british telly.  it was a splendid day of doing a whole lot of nothing in particular.  just munching and chatting and laughing {and enjoying the many sounds and faces of miss elinor}  perfection.

here are some of my favorite shots from our weekend of birthday excursions.  very merry wishes to my hubby. i am so blessed to get to experience this life with him.  and the little miss thinks her papa is simply grand.  we sure do love him.  he is the best and we always have such fun together.

two new parents, out on the town

well, we did it!  we kissed our baby girl buh-bye for an evening out – just the two of us.  dinner and a movie with my hubby.  evenings out sure feel different now that we are parents.  they require much more planning {being someone’s food source involves some coordinating, after all} and they also feel like more of a treat.  it felt like such an indulgence to get in the carseat-less car and take an entire evening to just relax and chat.  PLUS!  coming home is so much better than it used to be because we get to see the sweet little face of miss elinor.

life is good.

happy monday!  it is monday, right?  i must admit, our little peanut is making things blur together a bit.  can you believe that thanksgiving is this week?!  eek!  you know what that means…it is just about time to put up the tree.  hopefully i can get that done during miss e’s nap time.  my, how life changes.

anyway…here are some recent snaps from around these parts.   you will probably notice an emerging theme:  baby + food.  this is our life.

it is my distinct pleasure to present to you…miss elinor’s belly button! + white bean and kale soup with homemade english muffin flax seed bread + coco snuggling with her buddy + peppered salami, chipotle cranberry turkey, cheddar, and stout mustard on homemade sourdough bread + the two of us + a date night at brat haus + nap time in a bumblebee blanket + chicken saltimbocca with grilled asparagus + all curled up with her cute little lips

mr & mrs whitehaüs at the brat haüs

this place has been on our list for a few months now.  so when my sister gave me a dinner double-date night for my birthday, the brat haüs was my first pick.  i mean, you can’t go wrong with brats, fries, and pretzels, right?  right.  it was quite scrumptious.  so get ready to see more and more of these tasty links appearing on the blog.  i have a feeling that we will be visiting this establishment on a regular basis.

try not to drool…

the haüs.  so cool + food & brew menu [or, "bru", as they call it] + hubby’s beverage + a half-eaten pretzel.  the pretzels also came with assorted mustards and a beer-cheese fondue…but we all kinda jumped in before a formal picture could be taken + okay.  seriously.  the best fries i have ever eaten.  these are the winners by far.  belgian style [the homeland of the fry] which means that they are “thrice fried” in duck fat.  duck fat is the best.  PLUS, they come with gourmet dipping sauces.  we chose homemade dill ranch, bacon bleu cheese, sriracha aioli, and truffle aioli. + spicy sausage with hot peppers and root beer onions + my selection for the evening…turkey, apple, sage sausage with apricot onion chutney + my beverage of choice…arizona date shake.

this weekend was a whole lot of nesting and not a lotta resting.  but, it sure was fun!  we did manage to sneak in a movie date and some olympics watching when we weren’t busy in baby girl’s room.  all in all, no complaints here! ready to tackle a new week AND we have promised ourselves that we are going to plan a whole lotta nothing for next weekend, peppered with a few strategic interactions and amusements.

i kicked off the weekend by taking that dreaded, icky glucose junk.  yuck.  that stuff burns!  who knew that sugar could taste so horrible? + welcoming the weekend [and getting rid of the glucose taste in my mouth] with a dirty pizza night + bagel deliciousness + getting ready to watch some olympics + playing with rach & nate’s puppy, banjo.  look at that sweet face!

and now…i bring you…

the nursery nest-fest.

the crib in bits and pieces + a pile of baby-ness waiting to be organized and arranged + books and decor for the bookshelves + pillows for the rocking chair + arranging the prints, pre-framing + my sweet hubby assembling the dresser [he's a keeper] + the focal wall post polka-dotting + more assembly + a real, live crib!  just waiting for a baby… + a corner shot of the crib, the wall, the dresser, and the augusta flowers and foliage print.

it is coming together…

tee-hee-hee!

i’m sorry…is it really monday already?  what happened people?  this weekend went by much too quickly.  probably because we had back-to-back stuff planned.  and, the nesting is in full swing so i have been making lists and planning weekend projects pretty hard-core.  [sorry ben]  but, in spite of the lack of relaxation and downtime, it was a great couple of days.  and, i am starting the week feeling fairly accomplished.

happy weekend faces + a vintage copy of chitty chitty bang bang for baby girl’s library + i went for a quick trip to world market to grab some items for the nursery and left with all of these naughty goodies.  but i came home to a very happy hubby.  all of his favorites! + the new fiona apple was this weekend’s soundtrack + random bits for baby girl…finials for the drape rods, a bird pillow cover, and a bright sketchbook + a stop for 32 ounces of decaf iced coffee goodness.  my beverage of choice for running errands in the hot az sun + a little lunch date at shogun + crazy faced chopstick man + spicy tuna sushi + a platter of fried goodness with dipping sauces + more happy faces + grabbing dinner at jersey mike’s after catching a matinée of the dark knight + my man’s cheesy, melty reuben + limited batch, key lime pie ice cream care of my boys ben & jerry + my man and his “super stoked to drive to florence” face + the ominous clouds lingering over the mountains + our florence desitnaion…the windmill winery.  site of my sister’s upcoming nuptials.  so worth the drive through creepyville, az to get to this cool location + ben trying to hide from the rain AND from all the wedding planning jargon.
