simplicity
minimalist, clean, contemporary design at its best via afflante.com
leonardo da vinci said that “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
i am definitely getting on board with a more simple approach to life. cleaning up, clearing out, decluttering, organizing, using simple and clean design elements…a little bit of less is more. i am already making the shift into a spring mindset. trying to clear out the mess and lighten things up. {p.s. who is super excited for the j.crew spring collection? me. that’s who.} there is something so lovely about the understated. classic elements that mean something. not just things for the sake of things, but things that tell a story. what statement pieces are your favorite? what does your story look like? what does your living space say about you? here’s to a quest to become more sophisticated through simplicity.
knitted gardens
this is by far, one of the most exquisite uses of knitting that i have ever seen. what a lovely and inspired idea! jan messent is simply brilliant.
oh how i would LOVE a big, knitted blanket like that for miss elinor to sit and play on. i mean, what little girl doesn’t want her very own garden in her room? plus, no pruning or maintenance required! ideal in case she is ”blessed” with her mama’s green thumb. kill-proof foliage and blossoms? now that is my kind of garden.
is that not the best-est thing you have ever beheld? good gracious.
snaps & snippets & blurbs
what a lazy and lovely weekend we had! filled with good food, family get-togethers, birthday celebration, some bourne action, baby room decorating, and much-needed do-nothingness. ahhh…lovely.
happy faces + happy birthday balloons for mark’s b-day + mushroom, onion, prosciutto, goat cheese tart + smoked salmon toasts with lemon horseradish creme and fresh dill + sassy family faces + some post-grocery shopping shakes from whole foods…kale, strawberries, acai, spirulina, flax, almond milk, and dark chocolate + the fantasmagorical wall o’ prints for miss elinor’s room + yummiest cream cheese EVER + a random plate of deliciousness for lunch + my hubby’s plate of heirloom tomatoes with fresh mozzarella and balsamic drizzle + grabbing some lush burger after bourne legacy + cookies and cream shake + basket of fries + the dogpile. coco likes to sleep on charlie’s lap. those buddies… + the most amazing ice cream sandwich in the land! chocolate chips cookies with brown butter candied bacon ice cream from cool haus. just. so. good. thank you, whole foods frozen department for bringing this into our life.
dark and dreamy
this room is pretty much close to perfect in my book. those dark walls. that supple leather. that rich wood. that velvet couch. the marble fireplace. that crown molding. the animal skin rug. if the picture didn’t cut off mid-room, i’m sure you would see exquisite curtains and grand bookcases. and do you see those black and white floors in the background? that makes me think that the rest of the house isn’t too shabby.
i can only hope that this home is somewhere on the outskirts of london. with green countryside surrounding. lovely.
hubby, i’m ready when you are!

movie night
hubby and i thought it would be nice to kick off the anniversary celebration early [like four'ish days early] by enjoying a mid-week date night.
where to? citizen public house, but of course.
when it was too hard to choose between the yummy beverages, our waiter treated my man to a free beverage tasting to help him make the final choice. this is a great place + kilt lifter fondue. THE BEST EVER + deep sea red crab cakes with smoked red pepper aioli & celery root slaw + MY FAVORITE DISH. EVER. chicken & waffles: buttermilk-marinated fried chicken, oat waffles, almond butter, blue clover honey. plus…gluten free! bonus + THE YUMMIEST OF DESSERTS. donuts & coffee: bourbon glazed donut bread pudding, vanilla sauce, cafe au lait ice cream, topped with brown sugar streusel

after we were fat and happy, took a little drive over to the artsy-fartsy movie theater to watch moonrise kingdom.

decor inspiration
one of my very favorite blogs to check out on a daily basis is spicer + bank. this blog is hosted by interior designer, allison egan. she is lovely and fabulous! each day, she fills her blog with beautiful images of vibrant interiors and interesting design elements. i could get lost in her site. it makes me want to paint walls and hang curtains and snag some kitschy knickknacks and lay down a fresh rug. amazing stuff. lately, i have been searching for some inspiration for our little peanut’s nursery. and, allison did not disappoint. plenty of good ideas to go around. here are a few of my favorites that are inspired for any room of the house but that i am loving for our little one’s abode…
i love those chevron walls!
the cognac colored chairs with the big furry blanket…for a luxe nursery look
the pop of neon pink [if it is a girl, of course] with the golden velvet chair. i am thinking crushed velvet curtains in a fabulous color!
the mint color + the yellow color + the geometric rug in that rich brown
those prints are fabulous! clean, fresh, fun, and oh-so-cool. it has a playful vibe that is appropriate for a baby without being too “baby-ish”
now, all i have to do is somehow put it all into cohesive plan and then make it a reality. hmmm…
positively pin-tastic
some of my favorite pins right now.
an exhilarating mixture of cool home décor and new york fashion week…
the rough and refined rag & bone
the quirkiness and slouchy silhouettes of proenza schouler
the wimsy of marchesa
the beautifully bizarre world of marc jacobs
[his designs are just meant to be worn by helena bonham carter]
the classics with a runway edge from j.crew
