eyebrows

let me introduce you to elinor’s incredulous eyebrows…

photo

she shoots me this glance sometimes.  mostly when i am doing something goofy and trying to make her giggle.  oh, baby girl.  so much personality for such a petite thing.  i love all your expressions.  you are the funnest.

speaking of fun…i hope you have a fabulous weekend!

a wilting glance

have you ever wondered what happens when you disrupt elinor’s blissful playtime?  this.  this face happens.  look at those eyeballs!  and yes, she is shaking her fist at me.  such sass!  i just don’t know where she gets it…

in spite of that intimidating expression, i am enjoying seeing her personality more and more these days.  just think of the months to come!  just imagine the teen years… we have a joyful, curious, determined, independent, boisterous, and sometimes bashful little lady on our hands.  and i wouldn’t have it any other way.

a guest post from hatton

warm and fuzzy greetings from babyland!  today, i am tickled to feature hatton from chattiehattie.com AND freshmomblog.com.  you read that right!  this lady has two blogs.  rockstar.  hatton is a full-time working mom who lives in myrtle beach with her fabulous little family.  she blogs about life at chattiehattie.com and provides a mom guide at freshmomblog.com.  check her out, would you please?

and now the TRUE reason why i am such a fan…

the irresistible pictures of her oh-so-handsome furry man, breaker the cavalier.  we have done some major instagram bonding over pictures of those sassy and sweet faces, sharing prized images of our furry balls of personality.

so, in honor of cavaliers everywhere [and especially those who have recently been forced to share their throne with a new little one] i proudly present a very special post.

thanks again hatton!

Dear Fellow Cavaliers,

My name is Breaker, and I am a fellow Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.  I’m here to give you the honest truth about what happens when a tiny human starts living in your house.  No one – not a single human, animal, or Cavalier – properly prepared me for the life-change I was about to experience when a baby decided to move in our house.  I was not consulted, and I’m sure you weren’t, either.

I don’t think humans fully understand our regal lineage, but we were the lapdogs of KINGS.  We have a title: Cavalier KING Charles Spaniel. We are superior. That is a fact.  We are accustomed to proper grooming, well-designed furniture, and gourmet dinners.  We were bred to be pampered.

All of the pampering comes to a screeching halt when Baby arrives: for some reason, attention is diverted from grooming our gorgeous Blenheim coats to changing diapers.

Here are my survival tips:

  1. Don’t think you can sniff around and turn in 25 circles to find the perfect spot for #2: your walking time will be cut in half.  Get it done or you will not have the chance again for a very long time.
  2. Attention? Don’t expect much.
  3. Forget about peaceful, uninterrupted sleep.  Mama is on maternity leave: and she’s at home all day long.  No more “you time” during the day time.  So sorry.
  4. Your scheduled trips to the groomer will be infrequent. I usually hide from the public when this happens.  I just don’t want to be photographed with split-ends and un-pedicured toes, and I’m sure you don’t either.
  5. You will be overcome with an urge to protect the Baby.  Sniff the baby, stay by its side, bark at all potential opponents, and roll around over all of its clothes.  All of these things have helped keep my Baby safe, and I’m sure it will keep yours safe, too.

You can do this.

Sincerely,
Breaker

dear peanut

um, would you look at those little headbands?  too cute, right?  i bet you just can’t wait to wear them.  i wonder what you look like…hair?  peach fuzz?  blonde?  brunette?  straight or curly?  whose nose will you have?  whose profile?  ears?  eyes?  so many questions.  your papa and i just can’t wait to meet you and discover the answers to all these questions and so many more.

what will your personality be like?  quiet, contemplative, reserved.  boisterous, outspoken, bold.  sweet and shy.  serious and sassy.  will you have your papa’s musical ability?  will you have my dramatic tendencies?  will you be an avid reader?  will you have a dash of nerdiness?

so many things are swirling in our minds right now.  we like to talk about you before we fall asleep…and after all the discussion, we just pray.  knowing that God is knitting you together and knows everything about you.  we are comforted by this fact and we look forward to meeting you and discovering who he has made you to be.  sweet girl, we pray that you love Jesus and follow hard after him for your whole life.  may he be your identity, value, and joy.

1 samuel 1:27-28

for this child i prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that i made to him.  so now i give her to the Lord. for her whole life she will be given over to the Lord.

all our love to you, little peanut.

love, your mama + your papa

etsy love

i have been snatching up some real gems from etsy.  such a dangerous site.  so many cute things.  so many quaint collections.  so many creative people…all in one place!  oh my.

after i felt sufficiently inspired, i took all my ideas for baby girl’s room and created a design board to map it all out.  so much fun!  the springboard was my quirky idea for a kate spade-esque inspired wall that would be bright green with gold leaf polka dots. from there, i added in the furniture. once all of the big items were selected, the fun really began once i began adding in the decorative accents.  the little, special touches that would add plenty of personalization, playful pizzazz, and personality.  and so, i headed over to etsy to collect inspired pieces that would speak to my childhood favorites, meaningful quotes, and family memories.

here are the prints that i found and subsequently purchased.  i think these will provide lots of color and interest to the walls.  plus!  they will be super cute with the amazing quilt that my mom is creating.

little girl, you are in for a treat!

* the green print was our first purchase and a fabulous statement piece for the room.  it serves as a baby girl tribute to grandpa ridley’s love of golf…a typographical tour of the flowers and foliage at each of augusta’s 18 holes.  a perfect find.
